One Thing for us study guide

'One Thing' is a 3 season DVD series of teaching on prayer, suitable for individual, small group and whole church use. We're excited about the series because it makes available on a much wider scale, the teaching that would previously only have been available to those able to attend a Prayer School Teaching series of events over a period of weeks.

Synopsis of Series:

One Thing for us: Season 1

‘One Thing for us – bringing personal prayer to life’, is out now. It is available to buy on DVD for £12.95, and comes with a workbook to help you use/lead the course.
It is now also available free online. Visit our web page for links to the sessions, which can be streamed or downloaded. The workbook is also available there in pdf format.
www.salvationarmy.org.uk/one-thing

Season 2, ‘One Thing for the Church – growing prayer together’ will be out towards the end of this year, both on DVD and available to view or download online. Filmed in six very different Salvation Army corps and churches, in six very different locations, members and leaders talk about how they have ‘grown’ prayer in the life of their worshipping community. Throughout the seven episodes, we explore some of the most pressing questions we get asked about developing prayer in the local church/corps.

The workbook is available now as a PDF to download. www.salvationarmy.org.uk/one-thing-for-the-church

Season 3, ‘One Thing for the World – getting out there in prayer’, explores the relationship between prayer and mission. Whilst we will still tour the country to interview people and hear their stories of how prayer is transforming the neighbourhoods where they live, we have decided to do the teaching all in one place, at our ‘One Thing Prayer and Mission Conference’.

The DVD will be available in summer 2017.  Find out more info and how to purchase.

Every Vote Counts prayer guide

Do you want to pray about the EU Referendum?

Every vote counts in this EU Referendum. At the moment many are confused about the issues, what to believe, what to think and ultimately how to vote. We believe the starting point is prayer and fasting, to better understand God's will and purpose for our nation and for Europe.

World Prayer Centre have compiled a 51 day prayer guide starting on 14th May until 2nd July.  It will help you to pray for an issue and a European nation each day.

Download Every Vote Counts prayer guide.

Download a prayer based on the Lord's prayer.

Let's be informed – here are a few websites to help our engagement:

CARE – Read arguments from both sides.

Churches Together in Britain and Ireland – Think Vote Pray.

EU Focus – information and resources from Christians in Politics.

Evangelical Alliance's Idea Magazine May- June 2016. The Europe Issue will look at this from all sides and feature many key issues.

KLICE - Kirby Laing Institute for Christian Ethics

Maranatha Community - What is God's will for Britain?

Reimagining Europe a multidisciplinary blog hosted by the Church of England and the Church of Scotland.

Theos Think Tank – A soul for the union.

The Jubilee Centre is producing a number of discussion papers and articles in the lead up to the EU Referendum.

An insiders view - The wife of an MEP gives her view

Anglican Mainstream - European Mission strategist view

EU Referendum prayer events

We are happy to advertise each prayer meeting for the referendum but given the nature of the debate there are a range of events with different focus. In advertising specific prayer meetings that are for an out or remain position we are not endorsing these positions. Our approach remains clear – we encourage people to make their own voting decision wisely and prayerfully and encourage them to pray with us during the period up to the referendum and beyond. Equally we believe in unity in the body of Christ – especially when we have different opinions but share a desire for God's kingdom to come and his will to be done in this nation and in Europe.  Check out our events calendar.

Praying for communities

At the World Prayer Centre we believe that prayer is foundational to all evangelism and social action. Here are some resources to encourage and equip us from ministries we commend to you.

PRAYING FOR OUR NEIGHBOURS
This is very much on the Father's heart at the moment and there are many different ways to do this. The Neighbourhood Prayer Network's vision is to see every street in the UK covered in Christian Prayer. Their resource book Neighbours, Transform your Street: Bringing prayer to our neighbours, Bringing Community back to our Streets (Sovereign World) brings together all the resources from partner agencies such as Ffald-y-Brenin Local Houses of Prayer, Adopt a Street, Love your Streets, Lighthouses of Prayer, etc. The invitation is for everyone to sign up on the website and receive a weekly email. More information: www.neighbourhoodprayer.net

HELPING THOSE WHO AREN'T 'RELIGIOUS' TO PRAY
Trypraying is for people who don't do church. The TryPraying booklet includes a simple challenge to try praying for seven days and see what happens. There is an adult, youth and children's versions. The invitation is to use it and then lose it (i.e. give it away) and can be used by individuals, small groups, churches and it has been very effective when a whole town or city uses it. "This is the only thing I have come across in the last 30 years that I have been willing to give away to friends and colleagues. It is nicely produced, starts with where people are at rather than expecting them to come to 'our position' and is completely non-cringe. In short, it's brilliant!" Church leader. For more information and to download a preview copy www.trypraying.org

PRAYING FOR OUR SCHOOLS: Every school in the UK a prayed-for school! That's the vision of Pray for Schools: to mobilise Christians to support their school communities through prayer. You can do this through starting a group to pray regularly for your local school; having schools prayer as a focus for your church or praying as an individual for a school near you. http://www.prayforschools.org

PRAYING FOR THOSE WHO ARE MUSLIM
The Mahabba Network exists to motivate and mobilise ordinary Christians to love their Muslim neighbours in word and deed, and to help churches to mentor and multiply dynamic communities of disciples. Mahabba means 'love' in Arabic. www.mahabba.co.uk

PICKING UP PRAYER
Picking up Prayer is praying through the streets of your village, town or city while picking up litter. This method of praying gets Christians out of their churches and homes and onto the very streets they want to see transformed. The primary aim is to bring blessing onto the streets, both physically and spiritually. http://churchplus.info/prayer/picking-up-prayer

Beyond the Letterbox

Lent is very early this year starting on the 11th of February. We have written a Lent resource, designed for Individuals, home groups or whole Church engagement. Each week has a scripture and one neighbour challenge for the week. For those of us who would like to do one small thing each day (Sunday's excluded as a day of rest), there are an additional 33 suggestions for you. There are also 7 prayer themes each week.
For those wanting to dig deeper into scripture, there is a reflection about the scripture and some questions to make you think about how the scripture relates to your neighbourhood.

The whole resource is 20 pages long and costs just £1 per booklet. We are going to print next week. In order for us to know how many to print, please pre-order now. We have asked a church leader for an opinion and he is keen to use it as a basis for a sermon series either this year or next year. We also have already had another ministry order 200 booklets for their ministry contacts to help them engage in Lent. Delivery first week of February. Click here to order.
