God on the move in amazing ways mobilising Christians to pray for their communities. Your community could be where you live, work, serve, worship, or where you gather with others for clubs, hobbies, recreation or sport. What is the community that God is calling you to pray for/into in this season?
The Invitation to pray and get involved comes from the heart of our heavenly Father:
‘Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too, will prosper’. Jeremiah 29.7
‘Love God, Love yourself, Love your neighbour’ Luke 10.17
And is for every Christian –
‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has set me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour’. Lk 4.18
We need to get God’s heart, perspective and insight
There are lots of ways we can pray, initiatives we can get involved in, resources to choose from..but one of the important things is to first get God’s heart, perspective and insight on what he wants each of us pray into and work for to see His Kingdom come.
The first chapter of the book of Nehemiah is worth reflecting on.
We see how God gives Nehemiah a deep awareness of the situation – verses 3-4; and leads him into a time of waiting as he reflected, mourned, fasted and prayed. He then identifies with all that has happened and worships, confesses, repents and prays v5 ff before asking God for success and favour as he determines to go before the King. And from that place of seeking God he is then able to go out and put the plan he has received into action.
Ask the Lord to show you the things He wants to you pray about, seek Him for, or find out about and research.
Take some time to walk and pray (or drive/cycle and pray) around your neighbourhood, community, workplace.
Seek God for His insight and wisdom, ask for His leading
Share with others and get together with others to pray..
