Great Commission website

As people whose lives have been transformed by Jesus, we all have a story to share...

But sometimes we can struggle to find the words to talk about what Jesus has done.

That’s why, at Great Commission, we want to not only inspire a passion for sharing Jesus, but also empower you to have the confidence to talk about Him.

Our online hub connects you to a wide range of stories, tools, resources and initiatives, inspiring and equipping us to be talking about Jesus and praying for those who don’t yet know Him.

Have a look at how you and your church could use our Watch, Read, Pray and Act sections...

The vision statement is that from March to October 2017, evangelicals of all backgrounds and traditions will be affirming their commitment to unity for mission at events, festivals and conferences.
The prayer of Jesus in John 17 verse 21 encourages and challenges us “May they all be one that the world might believe”.
With shared prayer, readings, songs and an artistic symbol of unity, tens of thousands of Christians across the UK will have the opportunity to celebrate unity for mission in 2017.

They will receive an email fortnightly with information for prayer. The introduction is in German but the form is in English.  The email will also have English. They were in the process of writing an introduction in English.  If you use Google Chrome, it should give you the option to translate the website.

Blessings prayer for the UK

The director of Norfolk group Call to Prayer, Jill Gower, has prepared a blessing prayer to speak over the nation as a response to the negativity following the EU referendum. It is available here to download.

Blessings for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit

Great Britain and Northern Ireland we bless you with peace, calm and order
We bless you to know the Lord is sovereign and has all things in His hands
We bless you with patience and trust in Him
We bless you to wait upon the Lord, for His ways are greater and higher than all of our ways
We bless you with shalom – wholeness, well-being and completeness.

We bless the people of this nation to wake up and know that Jesus is Lord
We bless this land with a move of God, a turning back to Him and His purposes
We bless the land that the Light of the Gospel will break through, and no longer will we be in darkness
We bless the atmosphere over the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to be changed; for love, joy and peace in the Holy Spirit to reign.

In Jesus' name we bless the people of this great nation to unify, and for a spirit of unity to be poured out
We bless the people of this land to stand together and know that the Lord, He is God
We bless the nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to come together and to rejoice in that unity, for repentance and forgiveness to flow between us.

We bless our Government at this time, for good strong leadership to emerge
We bless the corridors of power with righteousness that exalts a nation
We bless the decisions made at Westminster to reflect the purposes of God
We bless the Christians in Parliament to rise up in the will of the Lord, and do what is right in His sight
We bless the law of the land to come back to its Judeo/Christian foundation.

We bless this nation to fulfil its destiny in God, with restoration of all that has been robbed
We bless the call of God, and His irrevocable gifts to emerge at this time
We bless the United Kingdom to rise up once again in the apostolic calling to take forth the Gospel of Jesus Christ into the nations
We bless the United Kingdom to build the Kingdom of God and not an empire.

In the Name of Jesus we call back this nation into the purposes of God, and we bless each and every citizen of the United Kingdom to live in peace and hope. We bless the people to love one another and to turn from their wicked ways and worship of idols, and look to the One who can restore all things according to His glorious will. We bless the people of this land with a spirit of humility, and dependence on God.

We bless the people of this nation to be safe and secure and to step into their personal destiny in God
We bless this nation to stand on the shoulders of those who went before us, who gave their lives for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and those who because of their great faith brought so many changes to this world.

Most of all we bless the Lord our God for the great heritage we have in this land, and the great high calling He placed on it, and we bless Him for His mercy and His grace and His unconditional love.

In Jesus' Name
AMEN

Prayer on the Move

Prayers on the Move, is an initiative from SPCK, and launched in London and Newcastle in February, and in Birmingham later in 2016. SPCK is placing 700 ads on the Newcastle Metro and 3,000 on the London Underground encouraging people to give prayer a go. The prayers are aimed at stressed young commuters and are designed to appeal to people who think of themselves as spiritual but not religious. Alongside the prayer posters are a website, app, booklet and merchandise.

The booklet, app and website contain 31 prayers, mostly written specially for the project by leading Christian writers. The app also contains 31 one-minute audio files so individuals who are unused to praying can challenge themselves to pray for a minute a day for a month. There is also advice on how to pray and where to go to find out more, written from a Christian perspective. These materials may also help Christians who are feeling jaded in their prayer life and want to try something new. Churches in Newcastle have been collaborating in organising local events – prayer vigils, prayer walks and getting volunteers together to hand out travel card wallets with prayers printed on them.

You can download the apps from the website. www.prayersonthemove.com.

Discovering Prayer

At Discovering Prayer we believe there's more than one way to pray and that with a little practice you can unlock the wisdom of ancient Christians and have a more fulfilling prayer life. If you've ever struggled to pray, or want to learn Christian meditation but don't know where to start, Discovering Prayer can help.

We offer four different types of audio prayers available online and an Android app which is free on the Google Store (iOS app coming soon):

  1. Absorbing God's Word: These 10 minute prayer and meditation sessions draw on the ancient tradition of divine reading (Lectio Divina) practiced by Christians since the 3rd century. This series is a good place to start if you value the Bible at the heart of prayer and meditation.
  2. Praying with Imagination: These 15 and 20 minute sessions draw from the Ignation idea of imagining scenes at the Bible as if we are physically present. This helps us to deepen our understanding of scripture and to remember what we've read. This series is for those who have a little more time to linger in prayer.
  3. Listening to God: These 10 minute meditations introduce a way of relaxing and listening to God and learning to allow silence; as we learn to rest in God's presence we are more able to 'hear' from God through out the day. This series is for those who want to begin to explore the riches of silence, relaxation and a deepening awareness of God's presence.
  4. PrayPal: These 5 minute selections of prayers and readings are inspired by some of the earliest Christian writings (the Didache) which advised three prayer times a day - morning, noon and evening. They also incorporate elements of monastic office, or church service. This series is for busy people who don't always have time for lengthy prayers. So if you're very busy you might like to try popping on your headphones and integrating a monastic style prayer into your everyday life.

IJM's Prayer Journey

Prayer is one of the most powerful ways we can journey with those who experience violent injustice. International Justice Mission have developed a great new prayer resource - Prayer journey: A casework-based on-line prayer walk-through. It can be used by Churches, prayer groups and individual Christians. The prayer journey invites you to pray for justice and restoration in individual lives and our world. This journey follows the story of a young client's path to restoration following sexual exploitation. It takes the participant on a prayer journey through 14 prayer stations allowing them to reflect and pray at each stage of the journey.

If you have a heart for young people, we encourage you to pray for cause.  Start here.

There are also a number of our other great prayer resources free to download from IJM's website on:

  • Justice and Prayer: A short article giving an overview of God's heart for justice; how to pray for justice and ways of getting started.
  • The Lord's Prayer – justice reflections: A series of four articles that explores four key elements of the Lord's Prayer and what they reveal about God's character and justice. Be inspired by God's everlasting, unconditional love and his unrelenting passion for justice.
  • Just Prayer Devotional: An eight-week journey through the work of prayer and justice. Explores scripture and the reality of injustice today, side by side, leading into a deeper level of prayer. Great for individuals or small groups.
  • 5 Day Justice Devotional: A 5 day devotional designed to guide you as you dive a little deeper into what it may look like for you to follow God into His work of justice. Suitable for individuals or small groups.
  • Advocacy Devotional: A seven-session devotional that explores how God used different Biblical characters as advocates in their own contexts, giving inspiration for how you might advocate for justice in your spheres of influence. Each session includes prayer points to help as you begin to intercede - to stand in the gap - with and for your leaders.
  • Prayer in action – stories from the field: 4 case stories of actual IJM clients covering property grabbing, sex trafficking, police brutality, and sexual violence. The stories allow you to understand the nature of the violence and the hope God brings as He transforms real situations. Each story ends with prayer points to help guide you in praying for these difficult issues. Can be used personally, in prayer rooms, small groups etc.
